When was the last time someone said those words to you? Recently or not ever? There is a good chance that it hasn’t been said in a long time. So let me say it for you.
I BELIEVE IN YOU!
I believe you can be anything you want to be. We are great at telling our kids this but not believing it for ourselves. I believe you can do anything you set your mind and heart to. Norman Vincent Peale in his famous book “The Power of Positive Thinking” mentioned a story of a gymnast afraid of going on the bars. The coach said, “Throw your heart over the bar and your body will follow.”
When was the last time you wholeheartedly believed in your efforts? I’m listening. Say it out. Or has it been that long. Why is that? Why do we encourage everyone around us yet internally oppressed when it comes to our own abilities?
Is it fear? So what are you afraid of? Know this, being afraid is natural. I’m often smitten with the fear bug but when I notice how my heart rate increases at the thought of certain endeavors or how my mind immediately turns over to negative thinking, I have a talk with myself.
I ask myself a series of questions: (1) Will it kill me? (2) What is the worse that will happen? (3) What will it cost me? Time? Money? What will it cost my mental state if I don’t do it? (4) Will I be at the end of my life full of regret for not following my dream?

What will you do different now? Not in 3 months after the new year. Forget that a new year is coming soon. You have a new day today. A new day tomorrow. A new week is coming. What will you do now? Life isn’t a guarantee. None of us will get out of here alive. We all have an expiration date over our heads.
Most of you aren’t fearing death though. You are fearing to live. You fear what will happen. You fear what people will say. You fear losing a few dollars. You fear rejection. Listen and hear me good!
This is your life and it’s the only one you will be given. LIVE IT! Forget what people will say. People will always have something to say. It’s damn if you do and damn if you don’t when it comes to people. You may lose a little money, so what! Work and get it back!
And along the way, rejection will arrive on your doorstep. So welcome that punk home. Offer it something to drink. After you’ve recognized it for what it is, dealt with your emotions towards being rejected, show that punk to the door. Go on about life.
If all of that is the worse that can happen, ok so now what is your excuse? You have none. Why not take a step in the right direction, in a new direction. You can do it. I believe in you.
Baby steps is all that is required. One step per day. Take your time. Write down your goal and small steps to achieve it. Don’t talk about it, just be about it. If you talk too soon, the wrong comment has a greater chance of scaring you back into your corner ultimately abandoning your dream. So keep it secret until you are engrossed in your process. Once you are confident and ‘all in’ then you can tell someone. Because at this point there is nothing they can say to deter you.
You can do it. You got what it takes. I believe in you.
Thank you for your attention. Remember you are your own competition.
