I just do it.
You would think I’m am superwoman or something. If you ask me, all women are super women. Women do so much in one day, it’s ridiculous. Most women have 2 jobs. One at work at work and one at work at home. She arrives home with more to do.
So it amazes me when another woman asks me, “How do you get it all done?” Usually I have to pause for a second because I’m thinking to myself, “What am I doing?” And I think that as a superwoman, she should know how. As a woman, we just do it like we do everything else.
But no, in hindsight, that’s not what she is asking. To be clear, men have asked this too but I’m not shocked when they ask it. LOL I’m JOKING men! A little bit joking. LOL
But when I’m asked about how I get it all done, I’m honest when I reveal that my alarm clock goes off at 3:45am. Don’t look at me like that. This is a thing! And I actually started doing this when I first discovered my purpose over 10 years ago.
Now let me be honest, I discovered this 10 years ago, and was successful with it for about 2 years and then another life took over. I got married and started having kids. So to fast forward back to 2017…so 2 years ago, I started back this routine as I began back on the road to being a speaker and blogger. And while on that road, I picked up another hat as an author.
It still amazes me how this all transpired. Writing another book (yes, this was my second book) was never in my plans but after I’d decided to follow my dreams and allow God to guide me; I was inspired to write my story.
Now back to this 3:45am thing.
People want to know how I find time to write blogs, books, speak, etc. But I know now that is NOT what they are asking because I can write a blog under an hour. Like who doesn’t have a spare hour? I can write a blog while waiting on an appointment or in a line. I can write a blog while riding in the car to my son’s baseball game. I’ve written plenty in between his games sitting on the bleachers.
There is always TIME. But the real question I think I’m being asked is, how am I doing this thing period. Listen, I’m not famous (yet) but to a few folks, I’m doing things that get me noticed. Because if you ask me, I’m not doing enough.
So to those that respect my current process, it sounds to me that they want to understand how did I got the courage to seek these things in the first place. How did I seek them AND actually do them? I believe that is the real question being asked.
With a full time job already. And it’s not a bad job by far. I’m a financial manager with the U. S. Government.
As one of the civilians with a high position, I don’t have to be doing what I’m doing. I’m not saying that to brag. I’m saying that to say, I’m not chasing money. Heck I can always use more but I make a decent living now. And may I add, I love my job too!
Like who could’ve imagined loving their jobs yet still chasing after dreams. I work hard at my job too. Every day is filled with new challenges and I enjoy it all. Yet, I’m still drooling over fulfilling my purpose. So I’m going to break this thing down for anyone interested.
The first step to my journey was searching for, praying for, and recognizing my God giving purpose in life. Once I realized my purpose in life, I then had to be BOLD enough to seek its fulfillment. Yes, BOLD. It takes a lot of courage to not just say you will do something but to actually do it. MAN I had to own it and step out on it. In His house we call it, stepping out on faith.
First I had to believe in my heart that I could be a speaker. I had to know it was possible. Now did God tell me to blog? Of course not. Just like God never told us how to built a house; yet He provided the wood. God gives us everything we need and it’s on us to determine the path.
And what I’ve learned is that once you start working on that thing you are destined to do, even if you go down a wrong path or waste time doing something that seems fruitless, if what you are doing is not the “thing” it will surely lead to the “thing.”
For instance, I started off wanting to motivate people to follow their dreams. My book was never a thought! My husband and I are now hosting marriage retreats! WHAT! Never ever considered this. You couldn’t have told me 10 years ago that I’d be hosting events today.
I’m going to break this up into a 3 or 4 part series as it’s too much to share and consume in one sitting. Here I’ve revealed that the start is to determine your purpose in life. For many of us, we know what it is but along the way, life took the wheel. So for you, that’s easy, go back to what you know to be true. Start there.
For others, Dr. Myles Munroe preached that in order to find the purpose of a thing, you have to go to the manual. To determine what a feature in a car is suppose to do, the car’s manual is available. So for us, we seek our Father through His Word and prayer. Just ask the question and He will guide you. He will support you and be with you. He wants you to be successful!!!
Spend a week pondering on your known purpose or spend this time wondering what it could be. I’m not saying it will be revealed in the week. I’m saying you have to start somewhere. And the time to start is NOW.
Stay tuned.
