If you are familiar with the comedian Katt Williams, you may have heard one of his punchlines of "being in tune with your star player." He explains that in life, the most important thing we have to remember is that life comes with all sorts of drama but you can overcome any obstacle, if you remain in tune with your star player.
Interestingly, Katt Williams has been known for a lot of stuff here lately and most of it bad. From fighting and getting beat up by a teenager (Katt is well over the age of 40 I believe) and several arrests or run ins with the police. Well before all of that, I was motivated by this particular stand up show as he expressed the importance of being in tune with your star play through is creative comedian expressions.
The example he referred to was this famous runner, South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius, who was the fastest disabled runners of his time. He was the first amputee to win a non-disabled world track medal. Well one would think he obviously majored in "giving up." He proved everyone wrong. But the crazy thing about winning against non-disabled athletes, they claimed he cheated. Said Oscar had an unfair advantage! WHAT! He had prosthetic legs and his haters said he cheated. But Oscar continued despite his critics. He was in tune with himself that's for sure.
The show I'm referencing aired in 2008. Amazing how I've remembered that quote and have used it throughout the years. It was meant for laughs but had so much meaning behind it. Have you ever experienced this from maybe a tv show or song? Something that you've taken with you over time as a result of someone else's gift? If so, please share in the comments. I'd love to hear about those things that inspired you from their somewhat "hidden" messages.
This is where I'm going with this. The reason I'm so passionate about writing and sharing now is because if I keep it all in, first I'm not operating in the gifts He gave me. Well why do I refer to it as a gift? Actually it's hard to explain but I discovered years ago through prayer, reflection, and listening that my tongue (I.e. Running my mouth) has power. I'm just now bold enough to recognize it. No, I'm not arrogant if anyone who doesn't know me is reading this. I'm just learning to be more assertive about this journey. I'm actually the most humble and shyest person when it comes to sharing certain aspects of my life. Most people closest to me rarely know these things. I've been a little secretive about it up until now; not wanting to welcome ridicule or questions I couldn't quite explain.
Well now, what's different is that I'm in a different place in my life. I've gained a new level of confidence. Well honestly it's not about confidence in self but more so it's about having more confidence in operating in my gift as part of fulfilling the purpose He has destined for my life. Just believing I'm operating on a greater mission and having the nerve to say this out loud…it's unfathomable.
And just how easy it was for Katt to instill such a great saying or belief into myself, my goal is to continue to share my thoughts, things on my heart, information I've learned, etc. I'm on a continuous journey of self-development. Jim Rohn stated that if we want to change for the better, "learn to work harder on yourself than you do on you job. Work hard at your job and you can make a living. Work hard on yourself and you make a fortune." A fortune to me is more than money…a fortune is the wealth of smiles, hugs, and accolades (simple thank you) for helping someone reach their goals or helping someone to change their lives for the better…helping someone find JOY.
Thank you for your attention. Remember you are your own competition.
