Every time I do something towards my goal, I grow wings. Over time, my wings get bigger. Soon enough, I’ll be able to fly!
I love the saying, “The skies the limit.” So much truth behind it. Another saying I keep in my back pocket, “Rather you think you can or can’t, either way you are correct.”
That’s how I approach life and life’s situations. I can do it until I tell myself, “I can’t.” It’s within my grasp until the moment I start to believe that it’s far away. It’s possible until it becomes impossible.
It’s all about self talk. What do you tell yourself? Day in and day out, what kinds of messages go through your mind? Are they mostly positive or negative? Do you see the glass as half full or half empty. Do you see the obstacle first or the opportunity? Are they giants or grasshoppers?
How often do you stop to evaluate yourself? Self evaluation of your character? For some, this is often. Others maybe not at all OR only when someone complains to them. And maybe not even then. Self-denial is a thing, you know that right?
Like Eric “ET” Thomas says, maybe “you let you down.” Maybe you’ve never taken the time to truly identify your true character and how it’s affecting those around you or how it’s affecting you. Maybe you’ve never taken the time to take stock of who you really are and what you represent. Are you an overall positive person or ball of negativity. Do you see nothing but what’s wrong in a situation or do you see the silver lining?
All of this, believe it or not, can lead to your self talk, self progress, or self destruction. If we are not careful, we can hinder our own progress even when our motives are good. We can be working hard towards our goals and self sabotaging our progress at the same time.
As many of you know, if you’ve been following me, know that I’m a supervisor at work. I’ve been in a management role for over 10 years. One of the craziest conversations I’ve ever had with employees are issues they are having with other employees and I’m not talking about an issue with ONE employee but with MANY.
As we all are aware, every organization has at least one toxic employee. Every. Office. On. Earth. Don’t turn around, it may be you. Lol. Just kidding. A little bit kidding. But think about it. Who is that person on your job that causes discourse with just about everyone?
Has anyone ever tried to talk to this employee about their behavior? Well of course. Maybe on more than one occasion. Does that employee cease from acting out at work? Chances are great that the answer is a resounding NO. No, they don’t change because they don’t believe they are the problem. Everyone else is the problem.
Now what does this have to do with you? Well maybe you are your own problem but you can’t see it. In your head, the issue resides in everything else: the market, the man, society, advertising, lack of funds, family, haters, etc. Rarely do we ever check our self talk. What are you telling yourself?
I can’t…I can do anything.
I’m worthless…I am a child of a King!
I’m broke…I’m RICH beyond measure!
Challenge: Change the way YOU talk to yourself.
Thanks for your attention. Remember you are your own competition.
